Next Sequence Initiated: Vote in The Burger Cup '21 Round of 32!

Veterans and newbies alike fell onto the slaughterhouse floor today as the 2021 Burger Cup's initial 64 contestants have been halved to 32. Eight new burger joints join a strong-as-ever 24 in the attempt to seize the crown of Beijing's Best Burger of 2021.

Now, it’s up to you to decide who moves on from here! This is a short round – you have only till Thursday noon to cast your ballot, so don't procrastinate!

A full one-in-four of our finalists are brand new to this year's poll and are still in it to win it: these include Fire Works; Messy Burger; Burge’s Bistro & Bar; Niu Burger; Fat Tiger Burger; Kitty & Daniel Hollywood Bar & Grill; Bistro 108; and Peach by Hulu.

What's that? These names don't ring a bell? And you call yourself a foodie... shame on you – get out there and try these new burgers before you vote.

Some other newbies were not so lucky. Panorama had a promising burger but was knocked out by an old classic, Lily's American Diner. Station Grill also had high hopes, but their out-of-the-way location perhaps handicapped them against the more established Miam Miam, who this year added the Tiny Gangster, the signature burger once served by Crafter's that won Second Place in the 2019 Burger Cup, Meanwhile, Salt Lake Inn and its sizable menu of beefy burgers was taken down by Shuangjing's Plan B.

Meanwhile, veterans are holding their own in the remaining three-quarters of the round. Top seeds Side Street, Slow Boat, QMex, and Home Plate all passed their first test with flying colors and now move into the next round.

The previous round wasn’t without its tension though, with four matches coming down to the wire, each victor outlasting their worthy opponent by only a handful of votes: The Roots narrowly overcame L'Fête de Bistro 105; Great Outdoors defeated Turkish Feast by the slimmest of margins; NBeer Pub eked by The Cheesecake Factory; and Shuangjing upstart Fat Tiger Burger just made it past Peiping Machine.

In addition to asking you to vote for your favorite Beijing burger, we asked you a few demographic questions as well.

We asked what beverage you preferred with your burgers, and it was no surprise to see Soft Drinks and Beer come out on top, with Milkshakes and Lemonade vying for 3rd. Baijiu (no shocker) came dead last.

As for dining habits, the average voter orders from a restaurant more than 5 times per week – and a good chunk are patronizing dining establishments quite literally every day.
